I am originally from Wisconsin. I grew up with my parents (both retired elementary school teachers) and older sister, Sarah. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Go Badgers!) in 2006 with a degree in kinesiology-exercise science and became a certified athletic trainer.
After college, my husband, Matt, and I moved out to Colorado for new adventures. Our families still live in Wisconsin, which means lots of road trips along I-80 for us! When we moved to Colorado, I worked as an athletic trainer at the University of Denver and Colorado State University (Go Rams!), which allowed me to travel the country and visit places I had never been. While at CSU, I earned my Master's Degree in Health and Exercise Science.
Matt and I decided to move back to Denver, and I started two positions that would change my life- head athletic trainer at Denver West High School (Go Cowboys!) and paraprofessional at Edison (Go Eagles!). Working with students in both of these settings solidified my love of DPS and my desire to become a teacher.
So, in 2012, I resigned my paraprofessional position to enroll in the Urban Community Teacher Education Program at the University of Colorado-Denver to pursue a dual license in special and elementary education.
In 2013, I became a mild-moderate special education teacher at Edison Elementary. I completed my Masters of Arts in Special Education in August 2014 from the University of Colorado-Denver.
This year, I am moving into a Team Lead position for half of my day while continuing as a mild-moderate teacher for the other half of my day. I am excited to collaborate with and learn alongside my fellow teachers to help strengthen learning environments and opportunities for all students.
I love Edison and our community of staff, students, and families. I am so grateful to build on my experiences here. I look forward to the opportunity to work with each of your children this year and getting to know each of you!
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with Matt and our animals, Afeni (puggle), Sophia (cat), and year old puppy, Wallace (boxer). We like to camp, hike, and paddle in our kayaks! We also love to take road trips and spend time with our family and friends!
